TOURNAMENTS
The WDTTL tournaments are currently held at the Merley Community Centre. Only players registered with the Wimborne and District Table Tennis League are eligible to play. Any player wishing to participate in a tournament must arrive by 7.30pm unless prior notice has been given to the tournament secretary that he/she will be arriving late.
Hard Bat Tournament:
A round robin format playing to 21 points, 5 serves each and 1 set. The winners of the groups will play in a final. If there is no outright winner of a group then play-offs will occur.
Other Tournaments:
Depending upon the number of players attending, each tournament takes a
round robin format with groups of 4 or 5 players or a straight knockout
with the appropriate number of byes to get the player numbers to the
required value.
This decision is made on the evening.
All games are played to 21 points with 5 serves each and best of 3 sets.
For the round robin format the points are allocated as follows:
Result 2:0 Winner gets 3 points, loser gets 0 points
Result 2:1 Winner gets 2 points, loser gets 1 point
The Veterans Handicap Tournament is only open to players aged 40 or over.
The Scratch Singles Tournament is held towards the end of the first part of the season.
The Handicap Singles Tournament is held at the start of the second part of the season.
The Drawn Doubles Tournament is held at the end of the season on the Presentation Evening.
How to apply the handicaps
Each player starts from his or her handicap up to 21. A players handicap is allocated at the start of a season based upon his or her results from the previous season. Normally, if a player did not play during the previous season then a handicap of zero will be applied. However, upon request, a player may be allocated a handicap at the discretion of the tournament/results secretary.The handicaps are applied according to the following table:

Each player starts at his/her handicap and plays up to 21 and the best of 3 games.
If the 3rd game is played then change ends at the specified score.
